Renowned Malawian women's football star, Tabitha Chawinga, is on the verge of completing a one-year loan move to French top-flight women's football team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after extended negotiations concluded yesterday.

The captain of the Malawian national team, the Scorchers, is preparing for an exciting new chapter in the glamorous world of Paris, the global fashion capital, following her signing of the loan deal from Chinese club Wuhan Jiangda.

The player's local manager, Theana Msolomba, disclosed that talks had been ongoing for several weeks. Msolomba mentioned that while other offers were on the table, the loan move to PSG was deemed the most viable option, taking into account the interests of Chawinga's parent club, which had to be respected.

Specific details regarding the loan deal are yet to be finalized with PSG. However, The Nation confirmed that an agreement has been reached, with the club expected to provide comprehensive information in due course.

Msolomba also revealed that the prolific forward has secured a sponsorship agreement with renowned athletic footwear and apparel manufacturer, Nike.

In an interview, the 27-year-old expressed her excitement at the prospect of taking on a new challenge in France. Chawinga stated, "I cannot confirm anything yet, but I am super excited about the possibility of joining PSG. They are a prestigious club, and I look forward to making a valuable contribution. However, nothing has been finalized at this stage."

Chawinga made headlines last season during her stint with Italian Serie A Feminile giants, Inter Milan, where she clinched the golden boot with an impressive tally of 23 goals in 21 matches. Her achievement made her the first-ever African player to attain this feat.

The anticipation surrounding Chawinga's move to PSG showcases the continued elevation of African women's football on the global stage. Fans eagerly await her debut for the illustrious French club, with hopes of witnessing her exceptional skills and accomplishments continue to shine on the pitch
