Muslims Ask Government To Make Prophet Muhammad Birthday, A Public Holiday

Muslim community has requested that the birthday of prophet Muhammad should be declared public holiday in Malawi.

The remarks have been made during this year's Eid Mubarak celebration held in Lilongwe where President Lazarus Chakwera was in attendance.

In an interview, the Board of Trustee of Lilongwe Sunni Foundation, Manzoor Bedha says they are making the request because many countries are recognizing the day to be public holiday.

Bedha indicated that the day is marked as a blessed day because they do a lot of charity by helping the poor and the less privileged to continue the works done by prophet Muhammad.

He has however, asked Muslims to continue being of goodwill even if they finish fasting which he describes as extremely rewarding.
