Mangochi Driver Hits Officer To Death Then Stab Another In The Eye

Police in Mangochi District have arrested Andrew Sawabu, 34, who was on the run after hitting to death Peter Juma, 30, on July 26, 2022 at Mogas Lodge.

The driver sold the motor vehicle the next day and fled the town.

On the night of November 6, 2022 the night patrol team arrested Sawabu at Soko Trading Centre following a tip from members of the community after he was spotted having a good time.

Sawabu attempted to resist the arrest by producing a knife and stabbed one of the officers on the upper left eye who sustained a cut wound. The officer was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital where he has been treated.

Apparently, Sawabu has been charged with unlawful wounding, causing death by reckless driving, failing to report an accident within 24hrs, driving unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.

He will appear before court after completion of paperwork.

Sawabu hails from Saiti Kadzuwa Village Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
