Months after launching a lingerie line, model and entrepreneur Mabel Banda-Khonje returns with a women’s intimate wear fashion show christened Boudoir on May 28 at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
The motivation behind the event, organised alongside Entertainers Promotion (EP), is to offer the Malawi fashion terrain something different, she said in an interview.
“There has never been a fashion show like this in
Malawi. So this will be the first of its kind. I was inspired by the Victoria
secret fashion show which I have grown up watching. Now that I have my own
lingerie line, I thought it would be ideal to have this event, at least once a
year,” said Khonje.
She added that after the Boudoir launch in September last year, there was need to have a fashion event for the same.
“That event introduced the brand to the fans. With the fashion show, we will show them what we have and what is coming up. I will be doing this event every year by showcasing winter, summer and spring collections, among others,” said Khonje.
As the name suggests, the event will see models rocking the runway in only lingerie and swim wear.
South African duo of Blaq Diamond and Malawi’s Patience Namadingo will provide the musical side of entertainment.
“We are still looking at including a female
artist. At the end of the day, it’s a women’s show so we will need a female
artist,” said Khonje.
So far, apart from Malawi, the Boudoir line has found markets in The Netherlands where Khonje is based, UK, Ireland, US, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mali.
EP’s director Tonderai Banda, in a separate interview, said the deal with Blaq Diamond is all set.
“Fans should just look forward to a good time. They will be in Malawi and that is a promise we will deliver on May 28,” he said.
The duo comprises Ndumiso Mdletshe and Sphelele Dunywa. Some of their popular songs include Summer Yo Muthi and Woza My Love.
