The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has refused to buy about 20 tonnes of beans supplied by Honourable Alfred Gangata, who is a Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mtandire Mtsiriza and Minister of Natural Resources.
The beans were tested and found to have high levels of aflatoxin, which makes them unsafe to eat.
DoDMA wanted to buy the beans for disaster relief food to be distributed to people across the country. However, because the beans are not fit for human consumption, DoDMA rejected them.
