The Ministry of Agriculture has banned the slaughter, movement and consumption of livestock in Neno district.
This comes after the ministry discovered that 172 cattle have Foot and Mouth disease.
This has been revealed in a statement which has been signed by the Secretary in the Ministry, Sandram Maweru.
The statement indicated that a preliminary investigation was conducted by veterinary officials, and it has reported that 172 animals, out of 23 kraals, are affected.
"A total of over 3500 cattle are at immediate risk within the affected and the immediate surrounding areas. Detailed investigations are still on going to establish the magnitude of spread and map the extent of problem", reads part of the statement.
For that, the Ministry has issued a temporary suspension of all livestock ( cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats) markets.
