Organisers of this year's Mulhakho wa Alhomwe cultural festival slated for October at Chonde in Mulanje district, have hinted that about 300 litres of locally brewed spirits (Kachasu) has already been distilled as preparations for the event are at an advanced stage.

Pius Mvenya who is the chief organiser of the event told the local media, Sunday, that the event will still proceed with strict adherence to covid-19 and cholera public health guidelines against calls from health experts to have the event postponed to a later date.

Mvenya has further disclosed that president Chakwera has not been invited to the function on economic grounds.

He, however, revealed that former President, Peter Muthalika, and his wife, Getrude, will grace the occasion.

Muhlakho Wa Alhomwe is a cultural festival where people rooted in Lhomwe tribe come together to celebrate their cultural norms.

The event will happen after two major cultural festivals, for the Ngoni tribe, happened consecutively in Mzimba and Tcheu districts.
