The Beach Soccer Association of Malawi says it intends to turn things around in the way beach soccer is done in the country, citing that lobbying for funds and procurement of materials will be a primary focus for this year.

The Association’s President Gift Chimbalanga says Malawi is positioned at 52 on global beach soccer rankings, hence the need to strengthen the game by lobbying for funds and equipment that will drive sport forward.

He made the assertion Tuesday, when he held a familiarization tour in Karonga district to appreciate works done on the ground aimed at developing beach soccer, where he most beach soccer teams in the country are facing a number of challenges, including financial and materials that are crucial for the development of the game.

Karonga District Beach Soccer General Secretary, MacWales Kondowe, says the meeting has been an eye opener as they now will be able to knock for sponsors to financially support the game.

The Malawi National Beach Soccer team made its first qualification in 2022 Beach Soccer AFCON tournament, a development which moved the team up on the world rankings.
