The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has warned against the sharing of pornographic content by citizens saying it as an infringement of Malawian laws.

A statement signed by MACRA acting director general, Henry Silika, which MalawiHeat has seen urges all Malawians that while exercising their freedom of online communication, they should be mindful of the laws governing such communication.

“These laws include the Electronic Transaction and Cyber Security Act, 2016, specifically section 24 (2) and Section 85,” reads the statement in part.

According to the statement, anyone found infringing this law is liable to a fine of K10 million. The law also provides for a prison sentence of up to (15) fifteen years.
