Members of the local community have come together to raise funds which will go towards after-school tuition, reading classes and mentorship of the youth from Senti peri-urban village in Lilongwe.

On May 1st, over 17 members from the Rotaract Club of Lilongwe gathered at the Lilongwe City Mall where they washed, rinsed and waxed cars to raise funds for the children of Senti peri-urban village.

The event was spiced up with music, face painting, water games and other fun activities all going towards the charity cause.

“A lot of people can help us with this plan. Development and charity support has been part of our communities for a long time, so the fundraiser was well welcomed and was a much loved aspect of the community over the weekend, as we saw a lot of people coming to support us. People have really come together to help us and so far, we have raised some money that will go towards construction of the Senti peri-urban village,” said Isabel Kumwembe, who was speaking on behalf of the club.

All funds raised will go toward implementing our Senti Project which is in collaboration with community leaders and youth of Senti Peri-urban village in Lilongwe. The project aims to offer free after-school tuition and reading classes for primary school pupils in the area. The project is envisioned to grow into a multi-purpose community learning centre for these young girls and boys
The Rotaract Club of Lilongwe is also hoping to hold a charity acoustic night, and a family fun day to help them reach their planned goal.

Isabel added: “We have a lot planned to reach the planned goal. This fundraising is currently just the start.”
