Malawi Spotlight: Marie Da Silva

Marie Da Silva
Marie is the founder of the Jacaranda Foundation and School for Orphans, a non-profit based in Malawi, which provides educational opportunities to orphaned children.

In 2008, Da Silva was nominated as a CNN Hero, with $25,000 donated to the Foundation. In October 2008 the Foundation was able to open a new secondary school building next to the original house, providing more space for the school’s 320 pupils. On December 30, 2009, Da Silva received the Television Malawi Lifetime Achievement Award from the Late President of Malawi, Dr Bingu Wa Mutharika.
