Malawi Spotlight: Thoko Chikondi

Thoko Chikondi is a Malawian photojournalist who believes in women and children. Her work seeks to highlight their plight and suggest solutions to their problems. She is a CTA/NEPAD 2011 Southern Africa Award winner for her photographs on the involvement of youth and women in ICTs and Climate Change. In 2012, she received a Copyright Society of Malawi award for best female photojournalist. In November 2015, Thoko Chikondi received a World Bank award for her photograph on how to end poverty in Malawi (1st place). She has also exhibited her work on Millennium Development Goals at Blantyre Arts Festival. Currently working, for National Publications Limited as a photojournalist, Thoko Chikondi is also mentoring young girls and using the camera to empower women and children via different projects
