Women Of Malawi: Meet the mastermind behind Kaluso Kake Gardens

Weddings, engagement ceremonies, birthday parties, turn up parties, etc are usually set in beautiful gardens.

Gardens with a feel of paradise, with blissful flowers and all. Everywhere in the world, flowers attract people. Flowers also inspire love.

Flowers, in addition, symbolize unity, success, wealth and prosperity. Prosperity? How can a flower symbolize prosperity? Well, that is subject of discussion for another day.

In the heart of Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe City one finds Kaluso Kake Gardens. The garden is located in Likuni near CCOD houses.

Owner of the investment Thoko Maliwichi had a chat with this writer through telephone. ‘Pitch your business in very few words,’ demanded this writer.

‘We do wedding, zinkhoswe and any other events decorations. We hire out wedding dresses and other wedding accessories,’ said Maliwichi.

She continued, ‘We plant and sell fresh cut flowers including roses, lilies, dahlia, among others.’

When people want to conduct an event, she gives them her home ground for the place that is supposed to turn into a venue is not yet ready. She charges only K25, 000 per event at the moment.

As if that wasn’t enough, the businesswoman now owns a shop where flowers from the garden are sold [at unbeatable offers]. The shop is located in area 18A near area 18 Puma Filling Station.

What the lady is doing has to be commended because in Malawi, people think women should not be involving themselves in businesses like Kaluso Kake Gardens. They (Malawians) are mostly of the view that women’s businesses are selling mandasi, for instance.

Thoko Maliwichi truly is an inspiration to many ladies in the country that aspire to become entrepreneurs one day.
